Unseen Namibia: The Kuiseb Canyon Photo Portfolio 2026
Two days' drive from Walvis Bay, Namibia, lies a remote canyon which separates the vast Namib Sand Sea and the Naukluft Mountains: The Kuiseb. In one of the driest and oldest deserts on earth, trees grow as if from nowhere, lining the sandy riverbed of this narrow valley. In June of 2025, I was the 47th person known to have hiked an exclusive 90km route through this untouched wilderness and quite possibly the first professional photographer to have ever done so. My trip was just a month after a rare desert storm meaning the canyon, which can remain dry for years at a time, had traces of water and lush new growth.
