FAQs
Fine Art Prints — what materials do you print on?

Workshops — What’s the difference between an adventure workshop and a retreat?
A retreat is typically based out of a single accommodation with easy to access photography locations (such as roadside or a short walk from a car park). Adventure workshops often visit more remote locations which require hiking, camping, or even 4x4 overlanding to access. Both focus on photography education and deeper connections with nature.
Am I fit enough to join on an adventure workshop?
In general, I have found that people are more capable than they think! Most adventure workshops are designed so that the hiking doesn’t detract from our energy levels for creative photography (i.e. the hiking is more than doable for anyone who is relatively fit and able). All adventures also list daily distances and elevation gains so that you can more accurately assess the difficulty. Previous clients have been 60+ years old, recovering from injury, or never multi-day hiked before. I am here to make the experience enjoyable! If in doubt, contact me and we can discuss.
What gear do I need to bring for an adventure workshop?
A full kit list is sent out in the itinerary when you book any workshop, but I have also written a blog with recommendations for camping and photography gear here. Additionally, tents, backpacks, sleeping bags, and sleeping pads are available for hire if you would prefer not to travel with your own.
In terms of photography, it is recommended to bring at least your mirrorless/DSLR, a choice of lenses from wide angle to telephoto, a tripod, and filters.
Can beginner photographers join your trips?
Yes, of course! My adventures and retreats are fully inclusive, open to all levels of photographs, and from all backgrounds. I regularly instruct clients from beginners to professionals.
How can I contact you?
Please reach out via my contact page here.
What’s included on a trip?
All trips are slightly different, but typically included are: accommodation, main meals, photography tuition and guiding, and transport during the workshop. In short, you are taken care of from the moment you arrive to the moment you depart!
Airfares and any additional accommodations pre or post trip are not included.
What meals are included? What about dietary requirements/allergies?
Most trips are inclusive of meals unless otherwise stated; often breakfasts are at your accommodations, lunches will be on the road, and dinners are at local restaurants. When booking, there is an opportunity to inform me of any dietary requirements and allergies. I’ll relay this information to our providers and make sure there are food options available for you throughout the trip.
Who are my guides and do they know the location we are visiting?
Murray Livingston has been photographing Scotland, the UK, South Africa, and all over the world for over 15 years. He prides himself on his intimate location knowledge which reaches far beyond the typical honeypot locations you might find online. Read more about Murray here. He also regularly teams up with other world-class photographers to co-lead workshops and bring you unique workshop opportunities.
How do I choose the right trip for me?
Firstly, decide if you’d prefer to join a retreat or adventure. From there you’ll see a number of locations available across the world, both as organised group trips or as private custom itineraries. If you’re still not sure, reach out and I’d be happy to organise a call to talk things through.
How do I book a workshop?
Workshops are available to book on this website via each workshop page. Simply click through to the trip you are interested in, find the drop down menu near the top of the page, choose whether you’d like to pay via deposit or pay in full up front, and click on the “add to cart” button. You’ll be directed to checkout automatically. Lastly, make your payment via a number of options (credit card, PayPal, etc.) and voila, you’re set to go on the journey of a lifetime!
How much should I budget for tips/gratuities?
Our pricing doesn’t include gratuities for service personnel, staff, or safari rangers while on your trip. In the countries we visit, a normal tip is 10-12.5% of the bill for meals. Other tips are at the discretion of the individual (often it is not expected!).
Additionally, gratuity for your trip leader/guides is not included but always welcome. If you wish to leave a cash tip, approximately £30/day per guest is recommended. There is also an option to do so via card.
